January 5, 2007

this was such a long week. i didn't realize how drained i was until today. i mean, i was still yawning at 4pm! some of these kids really know how to debilitate their teachers. however, i had this one student who is leaving for the U.S. in two days. she gave me a Thank You card today that said the following:

Hellow Philip?

Is this right?

Thank you for teaching me math!
It's going to help a lot I think.
And also, thanks for giving (?) me the name
I really like the name Pascillia.
I'm not sure if the spelling is right...but
Any ways! Thank you again and I wish you HAPPY 2007!

Sincerely Pascillia

so let me explain. her name is Seo Young, and she just finished middle school. since she'll be studying and living in Hawaii now, she wanted an American name. i made a list of all the typical Korean American names that most girls had. nothing really caught her attention. then i wrote some less common ones like "April," "Eunice," and..."PRISCILLA!" and just like *snap*, she loved "Priscilla." unfortunately, Pascillia does not realize that her current name is not a loveable name like Priscilla. i hope she finds out soon. real soon.

today, Jaepil told me the perfect description of Korea and the U.S. "Korea is a fun hell, and America is a boring heaven." isn't that so true? i still can't get over it! working and living in Korea really really sucks. but you gotta admit that Seoul is so much more fun than Cerritos.

i've got this heinous cough that just will not go away. i've literally tried four different cough medicines, but none seem to work permanently. i swear it's gotta be the nasty air i breathe in everyday. sometimes, i cough so violently that i just sink my face into my arms and ask, "Oh God, help me!" actually, that is something that i cry out to God quite often these days. but at the end of every single day, i can surely say that my God has, indeed, helped me.

i cannot wait until winter intensive is over.
