La Televisión

Alright, so I gotta tell my crazy TV story.

On Monday, the TV that Mike gave me died, so I looked up some ads on craigslist. I found a "30 inch TV" from a seller who lived in 홍대. I contacted the guy but didn't hear from him.

On Friday, my last class got cancelled.
I decided to take the bus to go to Seoul Station.
While I was on the bus, the seller called me and told me I could check out the TV.
My bus happened to be going towards his place.
As soon as I hung up, Joe called me to tell me that he was in the area since he got to Seoul earlier than expected.
I asked for his help.
The TV was amazingly heavy and barely fit into our cab.
There is no way I could've brought the TV home without Joe.
The timing was amazing.
Ain't no 30" though...more like a 21.5".
But I'm not complaining.
My left arm is so sore.
The timing was amazing.
Dangit. You had to be there.

BOTY

Janet told me about a documentary called "Planet B-boy." In that year's competition, Japan wins best showcase.
Then I was curious about subsequent Battle of the Years and was so surprised to see how well Korea did just about every year. In fact, they won the most recent one too!
I always thought it was interesting how b-boying got so big when I first came to Korea, but I had no idea we'd be beating the whole world and crap in multiple years. But you gotta hand it to the Japanese who often win best showcase. Creative shekis.

Isn't it crazy how crazy breakdancing has become?

Shrimp (and burgers) on the barbie

Mike invited me and Joe to sleep over his place before going snowboarding the next day. But we decided to do some male bonding by eating the best shrimp and the largest hamburger(s) I've ever had in my life. It was probably the coldest weather I've ever eaten in as well.Shrimp soaked in a brick of butter and smothered in honey. I finally understood what Jim Carey meant in Dumb and Dumber when he said, "Shrimp on the barbie!"
Joe liked it so much that he was even eating the head and convinced me to do the same. This is actually my second burger. It kinda turned into a freak when I decided to use the rest of the meat from the package since Charley decided to not come.
It's kinda hard to imagine how big it really was, but this picture shows you the size of the patty compared to the hamburger buns.
Since we were so impressed by its size, we decided to weigh it on a scale. 475 grams = 1.05 lbs.
Remember, this was my SECOND burger. I was burping meat all day the next day.
Then I got 30 minutes of sleep and went snowboarding. The end.

It's STILL Never Too Late

Stars, hearts, and "Love you~." My 아줌마 class wrote me a card and attached gift certificates as a thank you for my Christmas gifts. The latter half of the card reads:

"Last time, we were all surprised by your beautiful gifts. It was a wave of deep emotion. We hope you enjoy the times in your fatherland. and achieve your goals. It's so cold. take care of you!"

My mom didn't notice any mistakes. =D

The envelope the card came in had these words:

The Classic
When you need someone, remember that I'd be there.

(But I can't?) Why is Korea so funny?

Basketball Chills

Last night, my crazy bball buddy called me to ball with him. Since he is my buddy and I too am crazy, I agreed to play in the -5 degree weather. The amazing thing was that there were several other crazies playing at the courts too! Some of the water in my bottle froze. My hair felt crusty as it was beginning to freeze as well. It was cold. But it was so fun.

And a Happy New Year

Two of my students' moms bought me lunch at an 80,000won buffet on New Year's Day. I've made a couple of new friends at church who love the same things I love. I got me some new books to add to my Goodreads collection while getting rid of old ones at Whatthebook. I have set dates for going snowboarding twice this winter. My winter schedule has been finalized with 3/5 days starting after lunch and everyday ending before dinner. How did I do that with 15 students? I'd say the new year has been kicking off pretty well.

One proud note I wanted to share was that I ended up finishing my bathroom, bed, and Korean book before 2011! I put my diligence into hyperdrive and just bulldozed through them books. Now that we have a new year upon us, I think this will be the first year where I set some concrete goals.

1. I want to study Korean every weekday using my 가나다 Korean for Foreigners book and a couple of other supplements that I've used in the past. I was able to do it last week, so I know I should be able to do it again regularly. Language is seriously like exercise, so you gotta keep at it consistently or else you'll get language fat.

2. Along with language fat, I want to avoid physical fat by doing crunches and pushups every weekday as well. I know I'm not fat even according to Korean standards, but I do have fatty areas that can turn into muscle. I doubt I'll ever be able to get a six pack because I just don't have the discipline to stay away from my favorite foods, but I can at least stay fit.

I think those two are more than enough for now. I'll think of more once I give up on either of them. The battle begins today.

"It's bigger than hip hop, hip hop, hip hop, hip...

As I've told my brother several times, the best class I ever took in college was Hip Hop Culture. It truly changed my life and made Irvine worth all the tuition I'm still paying off. And what better thing to do than share what you've learned with others. So this post is dedicated to you all ignorants who want a proper university education. You can thank me later, Nate.

Man, they took down "Freestyle: The Art of Rhyme" and a bunch of other good documentaries that used to be there. But they have one clip of Biggie freestyling when he was 17 (I've put this up before, but it's worthy of a second upload).
